Back to the greatest moment in music history… during my life time: the early 1990’s. Bands like Dave Matthews Band, Nirvana, U2, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Stone Temple Pilots, No Doubt, Weezer and many more polluted the stereo of my brother, who is 12 years older than me and pissing off my parents.
Pearl Jam owns quite possibly the greatest album of the decade in “Ten.” This album is filled with almost all of their best songs. I even added a B-side single to this review seeing as it’s considered one of PJ’s finest tunes.
“Even Flow” is big dog on this album. From Adam Sandler’s spoof of the song as Opera Man on SNL back in the early 90’s to the next generation getting a taste on Guitar Hero, “Even Flow” has been a show staple for the past two decades and the song people identify with PJ.
My personal favorite off the album is “Black.” To me, it’s that defining song in the band’s catalog and it’s some of Eddie Vedders finest lyrics.
“Why Go” leads beautifully into “Black.” That song along with “Alive” really showcase the guitar skills of Mike McCready. “Jeremy” and “Porch” are the other big songs off this album.
Now to the B-Side. “Yellow Ledbetter” was a B-Side to the single “Jeremy.” It found the radio and made it as high as #21 on the Bilboard charts. Pretty impressive for a B-Side song. Now it’s one of PJ’s main show closers in concert.
