John Mayer catches a lot of crap for his pop singles and his douche bag persona. But damnit I will defend him to the grave as a talented song writer and blues guitarist. Some of his earliest work like the “Inside Wants Out – EP” is absolutely brilliants, including my favorite song “Comfortable.”
But this post isn’t about “Comfortable” or his early stuff. It’s about a great song off his first album “Room for Squares” which was released in 2001. The song is titled “St. Patrick’s Day.”
I think it’s a no-brainer why I’m dedicating a post to this song seeing as there is still an hour left in this very green, Irish holiday.
What I get from this song is a pretty simple message. The holiday season is no time to be alone because, well quite frankly, who wants to be alone on the holidays. But St. Patty’s day is a helluva day to party and make some serious mistakes.
No way November will see our goodbye
When it comes to December it’s obvious why
No one wants to be alone at Christmas time
And come January we’re frozen inside
Making new resolutions a hundred times
February, won’t you be my valentine?
And we’ll both be safe ’til St. Patrick’s Day
I find it a little humorous. But in all, it’s a fantastic song. Check it out this live version for yourself, raise your beer and enjoy the remaining minutes of this night of debauchery.
